LOCAL RULES FOR ALL COURSES

  New competition rules 2012 here

GENERAL POINTS ON PLAY AND ETIQUETTE

1.                  Players should mark their golf ball with a distinctive marking that not only identifies the ball as theirs but distinguishes it from any other ball in their bag; they should indicate to their playing partners which ball they are using. Failure to mark your ball correctly will in future result in the deduction of two points from your score.

2.                  Although within the society we encourage ready golf, as a point of etiquette you should not walk or drive your buggy in front of your playing partners until they have all struck their ball.

3.                  To avoid any uncertainty with your score, when every player in your fourball has finished putting out confirm your score out loud.

4.                  Score cards should be swapped between players.

5.                  There are two new rules that will affect your society days should they occur.  (A) If a ball is in a water hazard or bunker you must identify that ball as your own before playing it, this can be done by moving impediments to your view and by consulting your playing partners. (It can now be a 2 shot penalty if you play the wrong ball. (B) A ball struck by you that hits you, your caddy, trolley, buggy or bag is now only a 1 shot penalty.

6.                  Always leave your golf bag at a place in a line from the green towards the next tee. (When you finish the hole you are not holding up the players behind you.)

7.                  When your shot is a little wayward, pick a line from the tee to the ball so that you can more easily locate the area in which you need to look for the ball.

8.                  If you are unable to hit the green (distance) but are waiting for a player who has the honour, ask to go first.

9.                  If your fourball loses a hole, you must call the fourball behind you through.  Likewise, if you see you are losing ground on the four ball in front of you, try and speed up a little.

10.              If you have putted out first, it is your responsibility to locate the flag and replace it in the hole after every player in your group has putted out.

11.              Take all your clubs towards the green that you will potentially use, i.e. 6 iron, pitching wedge and putter.

12.              Regarding the above, always leave your club that you have used on a pitch shot in a direct line on the green between your exit point and your trolley.  This will save you losing or forgetting clubs after putting out.

13.              If you are in the slightest doubt whether you will find your ball again, play a provisional ball. When taking a provisional ball, this should be declared as a provisional with the make and number of the ball declared; also declaring to your playing partners the make and number of your first ball.

14.              If you do not have any chance of scoring on a hole pick up your ball. (I know you may well say I have paid for a round of golf so I am playing every hole) but this will speed up play.

15.              If a player comes out of a green side bunker and does not make the green or is next to play either offer to rake their bunker or play your next shot.

16.              Your shadow (line of sight) or voice (from hearing distance) can be off putting to others so bear this in mind where you stand and keep quite when another player is playing their shot.

17.              When your fourball has finished putting out, replace the flag and leave the green area so the fourball behind can play their shots. Mark your scorecard after you have walked away.

18.              If you have putted out and you are waiting for the others to finish, look around the area near the hole for spike marks to tap down. When all players have finished quickly tap the spike marks down before leaving the green.

19.              If you or the fourball you are playing in hits a shot anywhere near another player it is right to call FOUR loudly to inform them of the danger.  It is better to call four and the ball misses them by a long way off than having the embarrassment of injuring another player.
